According to the Cherry County Sheriff’s Office, they are again receiving reports from community members that they are receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be an Investigator or Deputy with the Cherry County Sheriff’s Office. They then claim you have missed jury duty or a court date and will be arrested if you don’t send money.

Another reminder, deputies cannot and will not solicit or accept payment from you in any form. Not cash, not check, not credit card, and certainly not gift cards. All money is handled by the court for fines, bonds, or costs, and by our administrative assistant at our office for VIN inspections and gun permits. In an online notification, the sheriff’s office states that “if you miss a court date and have a warrant, you will be taken to jail. If you miss jury duty, we will come notify you of a court date in person and in uniform.”

Another reminder, if you are ever contacted by someone claiming to be a member of the Cherry County Sheriff’s Office and you’re questioning their true identity, hang up and contact them directly at 402-376-1890.
