At the 2013 Stan Whiting Tournament, in Men's Division, Chris Danielski won, with Nick Larsen in 2nd and Casey Daugherty 3rd.  In the Women's division, Mary Mercure 1st, Jen Wilcox 2nd, and Tamera Medely 3rd.  In the doubles tourney, Roy Johns and Dan Garner 1st, Nick Larsen and Chris Danielski 2nd, and Mary and Randy Mercure 3rd.  In the Teams standings, Chris Danielski, Nick Larsen, Brandon Gehlsen, and Rob Lee came out on top, followed by Chris Danielski, Nick Larsen, Luke Fischer, and Rob Lee, and in 3rd place, Rick Joseph, Chris Danielski, Steve Hamling, and Eric Noteboom.

A boating safety course will be held at Niobrara Lodge in Valentine on Saturday, May 4, according to Scott Eveland, Boating Safety Officer for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

According to Eveland, the Nebraska Boating Safety course is required of all power boat operators born after December 31, 1985, which includes operators of personal watercraft and all other motorboats. The minimum age to operate a motorboat in Nebraska is 14.

The six-hour class covers everything from equipment requirements to safe boat operation and accident prevention, and is a great course for both new and experienced boaters. Boat owners who complete the class may qualify for insurance discounts. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children and boaters of all ages are welcome. Students must be at least 14, or turning 14 this calendar year to be certified. The six-hour class is from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (CDT) on Saturday, May 4. Students should bring a sack lunch and the $10 fee has been waived for this course.

The Nebraska football team held its final practice of the spring on Wednesday at the Ed and Joyanne Gass practice fields in preparation for Saturday’s spring game. Head Coach Bo Pelini spoke to the media following practice.
“It was a good go today,” Pelini said. “It was a spirited go. We got a lot done. It was a good practice to finish this thing off and get ready for Saturday.
Pelini said that coaches will pick the teams and added that senior quarterback Taylor Martinez will play sparingly. He also said that Ameer Abdullah and David Santos among others will sit out on Saturday because of injury.
