Fire Crews to Willow Lake

The Valentine Volunteer Fire Department was called shortly after 10pm Friday night to a report of a grass fire south of Valentine on the refuge. The fire was around the Willow Lake area about 3 miles West of Highway 83. According to firemen on the scene a small area burned around the lake area. Responsing to the fire call was the Valentine Department, a couple of private ranch rigs and the Refuge personnel. Valentine truck returned about 11:45. The trucks from the refuge remained on the scene to monitor the mop up stages. It is thought that the blaze was started by lighning from the previous day.
