Valentine City Council Appoints Sadi

The Valentine City Council met last evening for a regular meeting at the Valentine Library meeting room.   The council approved a request from Duane Gudgle for a special use liquor permit for a wine tasting on February 11th during the Bull Bash from 1 to 5pm.

Tim Colvin addressed the council to request assistance for the Valentine Golf Club.  Mr. Colvin reported on the thousands of man hours donated for upkeep on the course and community support for the course.  Mr. Colvin proposed the city becoming involved in either by financially supporting the course or possibly purchasing the golf course and leasing back to the club.  The proposal was to use LB840 funds from the sales tax revenue.  The lease on the golf course is currently $38,800 per year.  The council was generally in favor of helping out the golf course and encouraged them to pursue more information and come back at the next meeting with details.

The cable TV franchise agreement was discussed.  It is time to renew the contract and the council will review an ordinance at the next meeting to finalize the agreement.

The council voted to proceed with advertising the lease on Parcel “A” land north of the fish hatchery this spring.

On the topic of completing the water mains in the city third addition,  the council voted to proceed with the project.  Cost of materials will be about $26,000 with city crews doing the work.

The council also approved armor coating several city blocks including “A” Street from Cherry Street to Western Street, “B” Street from Cherry Street to Thatcher Street, Helen Street from Highway 20 to “A” Street and Government Street from “C” Street to 1st Street.

The final item on the agenda was discussion on appointment of a new city council member to replace Toby Miller who recently resigned.  Mayor Rowdy Kluender introduced the name of Gary Sadi to the board.  Don Nelson seconded the motion and the motion was approved.   Mr. Sadi will be sworn in at the next regular council meeting.
