Valentine Prom this weekend

“What Happens in Vegas…Stays in Vegas” is the theme of this year’s prom at Valentine High School. Prom will be this Saturday evening starting with the banquet at the Peppermill with doors opening at 5:45 and closing at 6. The banquet is for juniors, seniors, Prom Servers and outside dates of juniors and seniors.
After the banquet participants will gather at the high school gym for the Promenade and Dance with crowning of royalty between 7:30 and 8:00 PM. The Promenade and crowning of King and Queen are open to the public. Candidate this year are Mckenzie Kelber, Nick Krueger, Skylar Mathis, Matt Kluender, Allie Millard and Trent Osnes.
The Prom Dance will begin approximately at 9PM and will end at midnight. Doors to the dance will be open for one hour after the conclusion of the banquet. All students and their dates will be submitted to a breathalyzer upon entering the school building. The door will be one way and anyone who leaves the dance will not be allowed back in.
Following the dance the parents will host the Post Prom until 4am at the 4-H building with the theme “Winter Wonderland”. They will be decorating Friday night and anyone who has items to help decorate in a winter theme can drop them off that evening. The public is welcome to stop by Saturday evening to see the decorations and games for Post Prom.
City Council Meeting Thursday

The City of Valentine will have it's regular monthly meeting tonight at the city library meeting room at 7pm. On the agenda, the city will discuss the billing of residential solid waste collection services by the City of Valentine, and proclaim by resolution its intent to provide or expand municipal commercial solid waste collection either by municipal employees or by contract. The council will also address a revised request by the Todd Becker Foundation to close 3rd Street from Main to Cherry Street for an anti-drug youth event August 7th. Robert Joseph has requested a special designated liquor license for the parking lot of the Peppermill on May 11, June 1, and June 29th. In Economic Development, the council will look at a Program loan for $100,000 for the purchase of Peterson Dental Clinic, as well as the agreement between the City, ED Board, Valentine Chamber, and CC Visitor Promotion Board to commit up to $5,000 from the general fund to develop unified branding for the area. The agenda also includes Sales tax renewal information, replacing repairing or removing the Mill Pond fishing deck, as well as other agenda items.
