The Valentine Badgers qualified one individual, Brooks Coleman (11), to the 2-day Nebraska State Golf Tournament for 2014, which was held at the Mahoney Golf Course in Lincoln.

Day One:  40-41=81

Day Two:  40-39=79

Total =160 tied for 31st place out of 102 golfers
The top golfer was Rylee Reinertson (12) from Gibbon, who had a total score of 136. Sam Meuret (12) from Plainview shot a 137 and Tyler Ehresman (12) from Omaha Brownell-Talbot rounded out the top 3 with a score of 145.

Valentine High School Rodeo Scores

The Valentine FFA Alumni Rodeo was held in Valentine at the Cherry County Fairgrounds on Sunday, May 25th. A selection of the top scores are as follows:

Tristan Eklund from Valentine won Saddle Bronc with a score of 70. Samantha Vonheeder from Ainsworth won the Barrel Racing. J.T. Adamson from Cody got 2nd in Tie Down Roping. Brittni Mccully from Mullen won Breakaway Roping. Peyton Call from Mullen got 5th in Bull Riding and Sidney Hollenbeck from Winner, SD won Pole Bending.

The next Rodeo event is the Logan McPherson High School Rodeo at Stapleton, NE on May 30th. May 31st will be the Thedford High School Rodeo at the Thomas County Fairgrounds and on June 1st Mullen will have their High School Rodeo at the Hooker County Fairgrounds.


District Golf Results

District Golf took place on Monday, May 19th. Brooks Coleman took 2nd place individual runner-up and qualified for the Nebraska State Tournament May 28th and 29th in Lincoln NE at Mahoney Golf Course.

The team did not qualify for the state tournament, missing out by 1 shot. Valentine took 4th place with a 354. Only the top 3 teams qualified; 1. Bayard, 346 2. Mitchell, 350 and 3. Southern Valley, 353. Individual scores for the Badgers are as follows: Brooks Coleman - 76, Cameron Bancroft - 86, Brad Michalek - 94, Paul Orr - 98, Lyle Cate- 100. Great job to all of the golfers as they wrap up their season.

Ainsworth Golf Invitational Results

The Ainsworth Golf Invitational was held on May 15th and Valentine took home a "W" for their last regular tournament for the season with a score of 340. West Holt took 2nd with 356 and Sandhills-Thedford took 3rd with 364.

Four Badgers took home medals: Brooks Coleman was 2nd with 80 points, Cameron Bancroft was 3rd with an 82. Brad Michalek was 9th and Paul Orr was 10th with scores of 89. Lyle Cate was edged out of the top ten with a 92, taking 13th. There were 40 total varsity golfers and 8 teams. Congratulations on the win! Districts to take place May 19th in Kimball.



Valentine Qualifies Three for State in District Track

District high school track took place on Thursday, May 15th. Valentine qualified three Badgers who will compete in State Track in Class B-6 on May 22nd and 23rd in Omaha, NE.

Qualifiers are: Brittney O'Kief, 300 IM Hurdles, Kalen Hollopeter, 300 IM Hurdles and Quin Connor, High Jump. Brittney placed second with a time of 49.23, Kalen placed fourth with 42.31 and Quin placed second with 6'2".

In the Class B district meets, the top three places in each running event qualified for state, plus the next six fastest times of the non-qualifiers from all district meets, regardless of place. In the field events, the top three places advanced to state, plus athletes who met qualifying standards but did not place in the top three. Also, the top two relays qualifed for state, plus the four fastest times of the non-qualifiers. Congratulations to all the athletes as the season winds down.
