Prom at Valentine High School

Prom at Valentine High School  will be on April 9th.  The theme is “A Red Carpet Affair” with the banquet held at the Peppermill at 6pm.  The banquet will be for Juniors, Seniors, Prom Servers and school invited guest only.  Doors will open at 5:45 and close at 6.  No one who has been drinking or appears to be under the influence of drugs will be allowed at the banquet and will be turned over to law enforcement officials.  The dance will start at approximately at 9pm and will end at midnight at the high school.  The dance is for Juniors, Seniors, Prom Servers and their dates.  Doors to the dance will be open for one hour after the conclusion of the banquet.  Crowning of Prom Royalty will be between 7:45 and 8PM in the gym.  Prom Queen Candidates are Duste Kramer, Abby Paxton and Mica Schucardt.  King candidates are Eli Perrett, Scott Rupe and Brandon Sayer. The public is invited to attend the Promenade and crowning ceremony..

The parents will host the post prom event at the fairgrounds after the dance from midnight until 4am.  Post Prom theme is “A Haunted Evening'.  The final meeting of parents will be Monday, April 4th at 7pm at the high school commons area.  All those who have signed up to help with Post Prom, please plan to attend this meeting.

 

Dorian Sentenced for Assault

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Rosebud, South Dakota, man charged with assaulting a federal officer was sentenced on March 28, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Lance Dean Dorian, age 26, was sentenced to five months in custody, five months of home confinement, three years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

Dorian was indicted for Assaulting a Federal Officer by a federal grand jury on May 11, 2010. The charge relates to Dorian assaulting a federal officer on April 14, 2010, in Todd County. He pled guilty to the charge on January 5, 2011.

Dorian was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal.

 

Wood Lake Fundraiser

THERE WILL BE A SPAGHETTI FEED FUNDRAISER AT THE WOOD LAKE CAFE SATURDAY, MARCH 26TH FROM 5 UNTIL 8 PM.  THIS IS A COLLEGE PROJECT OF A U.N.K. STUDENT, WITH PROCEEDS GOING TO THE WOOD LAKE CEMETERY COMMITTEE.

   

Valentine Housing Meeting

The Valentine/Cherry County Economic Development Board will host a meeting this Thursday evening to discuss the housing needs of the area.  Questions to be addressed include: defining what type of housing the area needs and how to best facilitate addressing those needs. There will most likely be discussion about rental properties, first time starter homes and housing in general. Housing plays a key role in community and economic development in any area.  This meeting is intended for people involved in real estate, land lords, contractors, building supply companies, construction companies or anyone concerned with housing in the area.  The Economic Development Board wants to find out how they can assist in meeting the housing needs of this area to encourage expansion and economic development. Mike Billings of the USDA, Judy Peterson of Central Nebraska Housing Development and Pat Compton of Department of Economic development will attend and talk about programs that might help.   Thursday night’s meeting will be at 6:30 at the Valentine Public Library meeting room.  Contact Mike Burge for further information at 402-376-6842
