Commissioners Lift Burning Ban

Due to recent rains in Cherry County, the Cherry County Commissioners have at least temporarily lifted the county wide burning ban that was issued last summer during severe drought conditions. Chairman Mark Adamson informed KVSH last night that the burn ban would be lifted for the time being, but could be reinstated if conditions warrant later in the summer. He cautioned that some public lands in the area could still have some self imposed burning restrictions and visitors should make sure about them. Once again the Cherry County Commissioners have lifted the burning ban in Cherry County. Area Fire Chiefs encouraged everyone to still be extremely cautious about camp fires and burning barrel and take necessary precautions.

Bassett Fatality

BASSETT, Neb. (AP) - A Bassett woman has died in a single-vehicle crash in central Nebraska.

Rock County Sheriff James Anderson tells the Lincoln Journal Star (http://bit.ly/11aKmyL) that 27-year-old Claudia Koenig died in the Monday morning crash.

Anderson says Koenig was driving northbound on U.S. Highway 183 about 25 miles south of Bassett when her Jeep went into a ditch, veered back across the highway and rolled several times.

Anderson says Koenig was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the Jeep. She died at the scene.

Anderson says investigators believe speed played a factor in the crash.

Ribbon Cutting at Circle C Market This Friday

The official ribbon cutting for the Circle C Market in Cody will be this Friday May 24th, at 9 am MT. Governor Heineman will give some remarks at the Adamson Community building to start things off. Store hours at this time are 8AM to 6PM MT. The grocery store will not only benefit students, but the community as well by making it easier to obtain fresh produce and other groceries. Student groups were formed to help make decisions about the details of the store. Groceries are being supplied by another grocer in Valentine.
The store, which was built as a straw bale building in order to stay “green” and use less heating, will feature groceries, a small office space, and a classroom. The classroom will give students the hands-on training of running a business, as well as teach them advertisement skills, life skills, building techniques, design courses, and entrepreneurship.
